Is this normal for a new site?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if it is normal for a brand new website to get picked up by google and have just over unique 3000 page views in the 1st 3 weeks of being published online?

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining just very

at it, since I haven't done that much SEO to my site yet and don't have any advertising set up to promote it, so was just wondering if this is a normal thing to happen to some sites when they are 1st launched.

Just wondered is it normal for this to happen to most brand new sites and also since google have it in there index already should I leave the meta tags I'm using the same as they are now but just add new one's as I add more pages to my website?

Which I will be adding more pages to my site since I added like another 8 to it only on Friday since I had new site listings to publish.

Crazy things can happen with new sites. Sometimes you'll get a wave of traffic with a new site, then it will die down and then come back as your site gets older. This is especially true with blogs. Although I've gotta say that 3,000 uniques from Google in the first 3 weeks does seem sort of unusual for new sites. That's an average of 140 visits per day. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!

That's very atypical, but very cool!

Do you happen to know the source or keywords responsible for all these visits?

If not, I would go to google.com/analytics right away and install it on your site to determine the source

In the meantime, go to your web hosting control panel or dashboard and use some of the tools they provide you can figure out the sources of you traffic. I think this would be useful to know.

When you're adding new pages, don't add the same meta tags to every page, I would add relevant meta tags to each page.

Thanks Lisa & ssmorgan for the helpful information.

At the moment I am using the control panel that my domain name registration company supplies as part of there service but also have got statcounter on my website too but I think I will be removing that as it allows me to see the IP address's of the people visiting and I don't like that to be honest so plan on removing that very soon.
The control panel allows me to see how much traffic goes to my site and which country the traffic comes from but that's all.

Also with the meta tags that's what I am trying to do to be honest but I did notice that the website builder program I use does tend to add its own meta tags too (all to do with my website though) so sometimes when I look at the html coding I notice that it's added like my site name and other bits to it which most of the time I remove the extra ones.

It is quiet normal that you rank very good with a new site (newbie-bonus). And that of course also means traffic for you.

After that you have to show Google that you are worth your position

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, haven't been on here in a while been busy working on my website.
Well I have got links to my site on 5 youtube videos and a few posted in forums as part of my signature but that only brings in about 2% of my hits in total, the rest all come from yahoo, msn but google mostly.

Last month I hit 34784 hits in total, also google have moved my site up there listings, if I remember right I was on page 22 (keyword safe sites) when I first posted this topic now I am on page 7 for them keywords.

So hopefully google are liking my website and will continue to keep moving it up there lists as I add more content.
Just added a new section to it on how to report cybercrime and child pornography websites.
Thought I would add that section after I was doing research into blog directories and came across one that was allowing sites like that to be listed in the 1000's with them and it took me over 45minutes to find the right website to report it too.

I for one, and I am sure many others feel the same, would welcome your commenting on what you have been doing to promote your site.

I have a feeling that placement on google may not even be your prime source of hits, but I do not know. This is an area in which I have a keep interest but little hard factual knowledge. I do know that I have had a site on page one of google for some good key words for a period of weeks and still did not get that many hits.

I know a few of my friends that use a few forums have added it to there signatures.

Some of the things I have done to promote it myself though is:
Added my website address to all of my signatures in forums which is 15 different forums that I visit nearly everyday to help people out with computer problems.
Added my website to Yahoo Answers and leave answers to also help people out with computer problems.
Uploaded 5 music videos so far to youtube with a link to my website.
I have added a link to my website on Facebook, Tagged, Windows Live Profile, Yahoo Messenger Profile and Bebo.
My fiancee has also added my website link to our website in all her profiles.

I was just looking at some of the statistics for traffic to my website and the list follows like this:
Google(top of the list),
Yahoo,
Unknown Search Engines,
AOL,
Windows Live,
Direct Address/Bookmarks,
Then it shows the website address's from where I, my fiancee and friends have posted my website links,
and then finally unknown origin

I also noticed that search engines are bringing in results from around 60 different keywords too, and not just from safe sites.
Hopefully it will keep up like this as I add more and more content and safe sites to my website.

PS yes Lisa I have got Websitebabble on my safe site lists

In fact you have been doing quite a bit, and obviously the right bit since you have the results to show for it. Real life experience means a lot more than all the hype you get from some places.
