Red face Check Your Keywords Carefully Before You Build Pages!

I am trying a new strategy for winning keywords quickly. I went to the library and worked all day yesterday, and when I got home I checked Google and started yelling "It works! It works!"

I was going to post about it here, but decided to check the demand in adwords one more time. I'd targeted the wrong keyword.

The words were soooooo similar, but the one I used had no demand.

Back to the drawing board...

Hi Jazzy,

How did you check keyword demands in adwords?

That's a good reminder, especially once your site has steady traffic flow. I have a tendency to forget and write an article without checking demand first and it's amazing what changing a few words can do.

Question

sorry I'm keyword illiterate lol. How do you go about researching them?

For instance whats keyword volume etc.?

Only thing I know is to go for high demand low competition key phrases.

webman, keyword volume is how many searches were done on that phrase in the previous month.

Wink

Thanks Lisa...

It's just adwords among other keyword tools makes it complicated.

You may also try a tool named keywordtracker. It is very easy to use and shows a good estimate of a keywords popularity.

I think I got it now. So you aim for the highest search volume(both last month and monthly average) and very low(ideally empty) competition(advertising competition) right?

Plus, what mode should I put this on? Broad, Phrase, Exact, or Negative?

One more thing. When I Google the key phrase I want, a lot of 'em have over 700,000 page results. Is that number good enough to determine organic competition? Or am I waaaay off?

The lowest I've seen for my keyword is "809,000 pages" for "Space Games".
