Default Is this considered duplicate content?

I am creating pages on my site where people can review different homeschool curriculum. There will be over 100 pages.

The pages look like this:
http://www.successful-homeschooling....preschool.html

The description in italics is taken from the publishers website. It is stated as such, and I link back to the publishers site. Is this considered duplicate content? Will I be penalized by the search engines?

That's a tough one and I am only guessing here. In my opinion, if you are going to take a snippet of another site, the more unique content you have on that page, the better. I'd be more concerned if you were just taking snippets of other sites and not adding any of your own original content to that page. That's not to say Google won't dock you a few points but it's good you plan to add your own info too.

It's hard for me to believe a few lines would cause too much of a penalty but one never knows. In the end, I still think you'll be OK. I also believe Google looks at the big picture. If the majority of your site is unique and you continue to get new backlinks on a regular basis, build original content, etc., using a few lines from another site won't hurt you as much.

Just my opinion though.

I am guessing you are safe from a duplicate content issue since you properly cited the source. SE bots are smart enough to crawl the link you provided
