Default quick question about submitting site to directories

Webmaster and I have a question about submitting site in good directories. He was wondering if submitting his site to directories like jeoant and goguides is worth it?

I already submitted my site to these two directories and have my site listed. However, i've not seen any impact of summiting my site to these directories yet. Is it because Google hasn't seen the inbound links yet? How much impact will it have on the index, page rank and search results once Google sees the links?

I guess that's what webmaster is also wondering about. Webmaster feel free to add in more things to this thread.

Thanks, webdev! I would like to know that.

So we are asking all of you who have any experience (positive and negative) with directories to post them in this thread.

Our Goal is to find out:

Which FREE/PAID directories are worth submitting?
How much time does it take for your site to be reviewed and published?
Which directories you have submitted to, have a decent PR in internal sites (not only on home page)?
What kind of impact have you measured (high quality backlink or visitors)?

For all of you who are struggling to find directories by hand here are some nice collections:

http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/t...rectories.html
http://www.bestcatalog.net/seo_tips/directories.htm
http://www.strongestlinks.com/directories.php

We can work together and test these directories so we can all benefit.

Lets see, how powerful is WebsiteBabble!

I've submitted to both joeant and goguides but that was a couple of years ago and my site was already getting decent traffic so it's hard to tell if it made a difference. Do I get direct traffic from them? Nope but I just did it for a quality backlink. Hopefully some other folks who have used these sites recently can offer some feedback on their experience. Good thread.

I'd like to know the answer to this too before I start submitting. Is it better to just pick 2-3 of the best and then move on or is there a benefit to submitting to a bunch. It's hard to know which are the best and which are junk. I've heard that submitting to the directories with a good PR doesn't necessarily help you much since the search engines now know people are submitting to these just to boost their inbound links.

Here's my take on the directories. Now that the SE's are getting more strict about how they rank sites I think those directories are becoming less and less advantageous and that's mainly for the reasons attackdepression mentioned. They know everyone is using them to boost their inbound links and it doesn't necessarily mean the sites are good, quality sites so the directories are having less and less of an impact.

I used joeant about three years ago when I was building content/affiliate sites and it used to bring it me a ton of traffic. But I'm not sure I'd receive the same results in 2007. But maybe someone else who has recently submitted can chime in.

I submitted my link to those directories. I don't get any traffic from there. I'm hoping it improves my search rankings and PR so i can get more traffic from google.
