Default How do you see your ranking?

I'm new to this is just set up meta tags. I am on Google if you search "top ways to save". If you put in "top ways to save money" or anything else I get nothing. How can you increase rankings and how do you see how you are ranking?

Thanks

Increasing your rank is an ongoing process and requires a few important things... 1) Plenty of content focused on the keywords you want to target, 2) Meta tags to help describe your page and 3) Quality inbound links (links from other sites that are related to yours)

Meta tags don't necessarily improve your ranking much anymore but they are important because when your site does start ranking you want to entice people to click so you want to create descriptive, catchy tags.

As far as seeing where you rank there are several tools out there you can use. For example I just did a search for "search engine ranking report" and this link came up... http://www.top25web.com/cgi-bin/report.cgi

Also some statistic packages can be helpful to see what keywords are people finding you for. Google Analytics is a popular tool. Sitemeter is another.

Default Thanks again Lisa

You really are great. You're always right there with the answers. Thanks so much again. I signed up for the google analytics and put them on my pages. I remember you said on your site how you love to check out the hits. Me too its so exciting seeing where people came from and how many hits you get. I love seeing all the countries too. It's such a thrill. Thanks so much again for the great advice.

Yes, I use Google Analytics and awstats on my web hosting server.

I used to use activemeter, but removed it. You can also try onestat or onestatfree etc.

Default How can i set up links from related sites

Would I contact other sites and ask them to link to mine if I link to their site? I use google analytics too, but is there any way to see how they rank the site other than just googling and counting to see how many sites come above mine?

You can but most webmasters tend to ignore those type of emails.

Use Google's webmaster tools. They'll give you extra info about your site such as top search queries where your site has appeared but also top clicked queries. It helps to establish what keywords need worked on.

Good point Bingo. Google Webmaster Tools has a ton of different tools that you can use to help enhance and promote your site. In addition to the great SEO stuff, there are some really neat widgets for your site.
