Default Extra Links After Natural Search Engine Ranking Result

Go to Google and search 'Create Website' You will see Lisa's 2createawebsite come up first. You will also see that underneath her listing there is a list of categories in two columns with this information:

Quick Overview
Want to Create a Free Website
Types of Websites
Register Domain Templates
Select a Web Host
free software
HTML tutorial

My question is what is this called and how do you get it setup in the three major search engines (google, yahoo, msn)?

I have no idea. I've noticed that they do that for the first ranked site but not always. There's no way you can control it and it's up to the individual engine. But it only happens when your site comes up first for a search result. Although here in Dallas my site is not first for that phrase. It depends on where you're located and what box you're looking at. I'm ranked #2.

Intruiging. Thanks for the reply. So it is something special done for first place results sometimes. Looks like I will have to start really working on the keywords I want to get first in and see how it goes.

I think I found the answer to this. In the Google Webmaster Tools (search google web master tools in Google), I logged in and added a site, and there is a section for 'Links' with a sub section of 'Sitelinks'. These sitelinks are what is showing up and Google says they generate them sometimes for a site in order to help users navigate the site.

Really? I didn't know this. I never had to do this to get my sitelinks listed though. I thought it had something to do with sites that had sitemaps. In any event, this is good to know. I'll have to go and check this out myself. Thanks for the tip.

I think that Google lists sitelinks only for sites that have a lot of backlinks, especially deep links throughout the site.

The reason that the sites that come up first during an Internet search often have sitelinks is because they are usually the ones with the most backlinks and usually have the highest pagerank.

I live for the day when one of my sites has sitelinks
