So much of this original past resonates with me as I try to understand why some of my pages stay on that first top 10 page for their search categories, while other pages of my site, while bigger, more content, get a good rank then very quickly drop off. One of my pages has stayed on that first top 10 page (for it's search phrase), hasn't budged in six months, and now I see that it is a page that is a favorite of my visitors. I know this because it's the page I get emails about all the time, people wanting more information. So I see that I've not only built a page that is bringing people in, but keeping them there.
This is outside any discussion of links, of which I don't have a lot of yet. Just about why a page gets ranked then falls away. I hadn't stopped to understand why two of my pages stay well ranked.
My focus has been just on content, more relevant content on the other pages, but I'm missing the 'content that keeps someone on that page' aren't I.
