Here are some of the factors you need to consider when doing On-Page Optimization:

Alt attributes (use when describing images)
Tittle tags
Heading tags (h1/h2 tags)

Keywords
Meta tags

Yes, you should also utilize some good plugins like all in one seo pack for your blog. That will help you to rank higher in search engines with very less efforts.

Although the robots.txt file is a very important file if you want to have a good ranking on search engines, many Web sites don't offer this file.

If your Web site doesn't have a robots.txt file yet, read on to learn how to create one. If you already have a robots.txt file, read our tips to make sure that it doesn't contain errors.

If you want to get really serious about SEO I have a couple more suggestions.

- use the title tag for all links (title="")

- Use as little code as possible, for example a website made from tables instead of CSS has a higher code over content ratio. It's better to have less code so the robots can find your content (really fussy I know but I have heard this is important)

- The order is which your html is displayed also plays a big part. I have read that the closer links are to the top left of your code the higher value they have and of course Google will crawl them first. I will find a good video on this if anyone is interested.
