THANK YOU THANK YOU LISA! This is exactly what I was talking about in that other thread about the PR directories that everybody keeps posting here. People, listen to Google! They even said here that they took directory submissions OUT of their Webmaster guidelines. When will people start listenting and stop spending all day searching for high PR directories????? THANK YOU THANK YOU!

hey Lisa,
I would agree that most "directories" are next to worthless, but I think some competitors rank because of a whole bunch of "next to worthless" links. That said, I'm reading a lot know that links can actually hurt you, so I'm wondering if a link on a questionable directory might actually be a BAD thing... What thinks you? ~ Steve, aka master displays

I don't think it would necessarily hurt you (unless it's a directory that has been penalized by Google.) My point is that submitting just won't help you as much anymore. If nothing else, Google will just ignore that backlink and it won't count toward your "link juice".

Hi Lisa,
Thanks. I agree they won't help, I'm just not sure if google "ignores" them, or says, hmmmm, wonder why this sugar cookies website is listed on a site that also has links for spam1, spam2, spam3, and so on. I think in the future it might hurt, so I think it might be good to avoid these directories. Of course, what can you do if you submit to a legit directory, and then later the standards "drop". Oh well...

For SEO based works what a search engine counts is so important fact. So before you take any step knowing about it's result is a must. As google trusts on DMOZ we have to be more careful about it. DEMOZ works can bring a great success at all to gain a good traffic through google.

I think Google has stopped giving importance to directory submission. You will get just a link back from those worthless websites and nothing all. Better to spend that time in some other fruitful activities that will give good dividends at the end.

The Yahoo directory is an exception because even though it costs to be added to the directory they still turn down submissions. This gives value because they only accept quality websites.

One major advantage of directory submission is that it is an easy and rapid way to create link dispersion on search engines without needing to spend too much. But there are one common disadvantage is that directory submissions are lingering and tiresome. Hence, do some additional work to optimize your web pages or content according to SEO editorial and SEO copy writing guidelines and then select the proper directories for submission.

well, Google started its initial crawl of the web by using the contents of the Open Directory Project (DMOZ). So, u can see how G trust DMOZ.
