Default Keyword help

I am using Yahoo and Google PPC advertising and picked a bunch of keywords that I thought would work well with my site. After reading several reports I noticed that words like "Protein" were eating up most my budget and I was not getting any sales. I quickly took it off and realized that I should focus my keywords on things that I want my customers to be searching for like "discounted supplements". That was a lesson well learned and I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give me some more advice on some keywords or some keyword strategies before I waste any more money

My site is http://www.ProteinPantry.com

Thanks!

-Anthony

Don't worry, most people make the same mistake by bidding on general keywords that bring a lot of traffic and zero sales... which defeats the point.

To add another layer to what you said... ideally, you would want to bid on keywords that your potential customers would be using to buy your products. I think "discounted supplements" is still too general. Test it, though.

If the owner of the brand or the trade name allows it, try bidding on product names. For example, bid on "discounted xxx [brand name] protein shake". While such keywords will not bring you a ton of traffic, they will bring you targeted traffic that are likely make a purchase.

Think about this... If you were a customer, what would you type if you are searching for a specific product to buy?

Let me know if you want me to clarify/elaborate.

Good advice by ssmorgan. Long tail keywords are what you want to add to your campaign. These will be more specific, possibly meaning less impressions, however they should convert better. They should also cost less per click as well.

Its not your fault , everybody does this mistake at beggining.
If you are newbie you cant get success with ppc.

The most important thing , do not bid main and general keywords if your niche popular and has lots of competitor.Because little fish cant fight with big fish'z.

Just focus
