Default Adsense: some advertisers make ads look like they are not to be clicked

I reviewed Google Policy about how we cannot make ads look like part of content etc and believe that it is a very good policy.

I have a concern through about advertisers who make the ad appear as though it is something that cannot be clicked on. Two ads that I came across was a cisco ad and a blackberry ad. They really only look like a billboard type ad. If it is pay per click but looks like a bill board ad people will see their advertisement and move on. It seems like it is free advertising to me. I would prefer to have another ad on the site instead but am confused as to how I do this. I thought about just changing all the ads so that they are text only.

Has anyone else had ads that they are not happy about?

You can block certain ads from showing by logging into your AdSense account and going to the "My Ads" section.

yes but it seems confusing to try to get the URL . I will have to look at it later and try to figure it out. My dad is extremely ill so I likely will not be able to get to this for some time. I do think that there should be rules as well in regards to ads that are generated. If a publisher is paid by clicking and an ad looks like it is something that should not be clicked this is unfair to the publisher.

Yes it is tricky to get the URL, but Google has instructions for how to go about it in your account.

I wish your dad all the best.

I'm going to be blocking a couple of ads too - I run a website where 3 competing UK businesses show up in the leaderboard ad unit on my pages. There is one particular business I know for a fact is crap and not used by the customers. They adveretise on TV etc but are a poor service with a bad rep. I want the market leader to show in that space because I KNOW it gets clicked much more and accounts for all the revenue on my website.

I never thought of that. It makes sense.

Yes I've had to block quite a few ads over the years for various reasons. Glad they give us that option.
