Default I have an Internet Explorer problem.

Sometimes when I close a window on Internet Explorer, instead of closing completely it goes to an "About Blank" screen, just a white screen that I can't exit out of, only minimize it. I have collected as many as 6 to 10 of these. This seems to be slowing down my computer terribly. The only way I have come up with to get rid of them is to restart my computer. Can anyone out there give me some ideas on how to fix this? It seems that my I.E. is corrupted. Should I download a new I.E.? Can I do that without losing any of my files? Should I do it from the net or from my windows xp disc? Is there some way to do it without charge?

Thank you for your help,
Hubert

Have you ever thought of installing Firefox? It's much faster and less buggy than IE.

yes I agree to Lisa. Firefox is much much better than the IE.
I have started using this Firefox a few months back. and I find it much much better than Firefox. So try that.
And I think the problem which you are facing is due to some spyware. so instal some good spyware and scan you computer. and if the problem still exists then use Firefox

I believe opera is the best browser. IE7 is terribly slow. In fact, you need a super computer to use it

Mozilla Firefox is really good, but it suffers from memory leakage. Keep you computer on for some time with mozilla firefox running, your computer will freeze.

If you have a low configuration computer (i.e. 256 MB RAM), I would suggest you to try Opera. It works perfectly and so it is cool

I have never usually had a problem with IE, but from what it sounds like you may have spyware or a virus. You may want to run anti-virus or anti-spyware application.

You may also have objects installed that are integrated with IE:

1. Click Start->Settings->Control Panel
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. From the general tab, click Settings.
4. Click View Objects.

You should now see a list of programs that can use your browser. Uninstall any you don't recognize. If you needed a program that you have uninstalled, you will be able to reinstall it in the future.

If you don't have IE 7 installed, I would suggest you update to that version. I have used IE, Opera and Firefox and I found that IE is still the better browser for surfing, although I do like the other two because they are smaller and faster. Unfortunately, because IE is the dominant browser so some Web sites will only display properly in IE, which is a shame.

Thank you all for your advice. Several people suggested Fire Fox, which I will be trying out. My system ran some kinda scan, and recovered my registry. It seems better now.

Do you have the latest version of IE?

IE can be very buggy sometimes as well as Firefox.
For IE just keep on updating the latest definition files / patches
