Default The WB Reputation System is In Place

First of all, I want to apologize to some of you because while I was setting this up, some of you lost your avatar and signature privileges. They got turned off in the process but all should be well again. Sorry about that! In any event, the WB Reputation System is now in place. It is in EXTREME beta mode and I will be tweaking things as time goes on.

You can read the full details here...
http://www.websitebabble.com/new-mem...uncements.html

But I just wanted to add a few notes...

1) Reputation points that I assign (positive and negative) count more than the WB member's points. It's called "The Admin Influence"

2) You gain 1 green bar (located under your total number of posts) for every 100 reputation points you receive (I will not reveal how many points are awarded per click, plus it varies depending on your individual reputation power). In other words, people who have more reputation points can award (or subtract) more points from others.

3) Even though your bar only increases with every 100 rep points, the system is still awarding you for incremental rep point earnings. So be sure to hover over your green bar every once and a while to see what the reputation system is saying about you.

4) To view your own reputation, click the "scale" icon located on the top-right bar of your post. You can also check the UserCP to see which posts have just given you rep points. For privacy reasons you cannot see who is assigning you points, you can only see your most recent rep points and what post awarded you the points.

5) I will be monitoring this closely for abuse and can tell if someone is constantly giving negative points for good posts. If the negative point system gets abused I will remove it and only allow positive rep points. Not everyone can give negative points (read the announcement above to learn more about this). I will be remove negative points if I feel they were unfairly assigned.

If everyone plays fair and awards people for their helpful posts this can be a very useful feature for WB down the road and I look forward to rewarding people based on their good reputations here. I think it will also encourage people to provide valuable feedback. You guys are already good at doing that, but this just adds another incentive.

Again, this is major BETA so please bear with me while I test this out. Don't forget to read the announcement to learn how to give rep points.

I hope people take the time to use the system responsibly and reward people for making good, helpful posts! Have fun.

Nice addition. Unlike some other forums and web sites, I don't see many here abusing the reputation system. There are a great bunch of posters in these forums.

I felt the same way TG so we'll see how it goes.

Also, someone just informed me that they couldn't post new threads. I've fixed that issue now. Sorry guys (no wonder post count was down today!) The permissions got all screwed up but should be OK now.

Hey Lisa,

This is cool. I don't get to post here much anymore but I do still lurk and I gotta say this is a good idea. I've been on other forums where they use this and I tend to pay more attention and give more credibility to the people who have higher forum reputations (green bars). I also tend to visit their sites more often. And it gives your members something to strive for and will increase the quality of answers here. Although this forum has some of the best quality answers I've seen in a while. I think if people rate everyone fairly then it will be a good system to use.

I'm finally getting settled in my new city so I hope to participate more often. This forum has really grown in the last year. Wow! Take care.
