Default Brand Newbie (REAL new!)

Title should have read, "I am completely ignorant to website creation, building, maintaining, designing, etc....."

I expected to find posts by people similar to me (with absolutely no knowledge!) but everyone claiming to be a newb has already far surpassed my abilities

Anyways, I'm hungry for knowledge and my research so far has not lead me to anything useful, considering I need an Idiots Guide to web construction

For now I want to create a website that allows me to blog, post albums, artwork, and music. In the immediate future I just want to post pictures with captions. I have bought a domain name, host (godaddy), and Dreamweaver but my malfunctioning brain has prevented me from any progress haha. Where do I start!? Any tutorials or guides for laymen?? Any advice you might be able to add?? I'd like to think I'm intelligent enough to follow basic instructions but I've found nothing...please help. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Bromius and welcome to the forum. It seems like you want to have a Web site with quite a lot of information. Teh first thing you should do is plan out what you want on your site-how you want it organized and the topic you will be covering. It can be easy to get carried away, but keeping it organized will help visitors navigate through your site.

If you are looking to blog, you can try one of the main blog sites: Blogger (http://www.blogger.com) or Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/). I currently use Blogger, and all you need to do is select one of their templates and just create posts. Not much programming required. You can also use your GoDaddy domain name on Blogger (instructions are provided on how to do this). I currently use Blogger for my blog (URL in signature).

The important thing to remember here is to start small and build slowly. You'll learn quite a bit as you go. You can also read the posts on this forum as they provide really useful tips and helpful Web sites.

Welcome Bromius,

You mentioned you have a domain name but did you also sign up with a host from GoDaddy? You need that to begin building your site. The domain name will get you started but the host is what actually houses your files. Then you would use Dreamweaver to create your pages and publish/save to your host.
