Question Cost

Lisa,

I stumbled on your website last week, while I was on vacation. I was actually snooping on my son's (15) youtube account. When I finished, I saw your video(s) and went to your website. I have bookmarked it. I have gone to it everyday since last Thursday. I want to start an informational website dealing with my knowledge from work. But it sounds expensive. I know it is a business, but about how much will I have to spend to get started? I checked out websitepalace to see if the domain name was used, and it is not.

I am so excited to get started, but I am going to have to save some money. I am a paycheck to paycheck person.

Also, it is so much information to absorb. Do I do every step on your site or go through SiteBuildIt? I know somethings about a computer but I have never built a website.

Hi wflow,

First of all if you compare the cost to starting an offline business to the cost of starting an online business, it's ridiculously cheap. Of course if you use Site Build It!, then it is expensive at $299/yr, but if you go the domain and regular hosting route you're looking at $5/month when you total up the cost of the domain and the smallest/cheapest web hosting package at websitepalace.

And yes, if you want to make money you have to invest money in my opinion. Also don't forget website building software. Do you plan on purchasing some? I would strongly suggest doing that because you'll need some to build your pages.

There are some free ones out there. There's Nvu and Komposer. Several people here have used that. Maybe someone can reply with their experience using these tools.

But you gotta admit, starting a business for $5/month is dirt cheap when you compare the costs to starting an offline business.

Hi there wflow welcome!

I have to say that in my opinion, on cannot put a price-tag on knowledge and since starting this process with the help of Lisa's sites and SBI- the $299 fee (annual) is well worth every single cent! That's $24.92 per month technically and like Lisa had mentioned if you opt to not go with SBI, there are more cost-effective alternatives bu for the information and tools that SBI provides- you simply cannot beat it!

I had no website experience but oh my golly! I am sooooo impressed with the whole process and ease of use- that it is unbelievable!

I encourage you to do what feels right and of course, you wont become a millionaire overnight- but hard work will pay off no matter which route you choose!

Best of luck to you

It wouldn't surprise me if all you had to pay for was the hosting, there are so many free resources out there!

We'd love to hold your hand through the process!

Just remember--it takes time! I'm six months into my first couple sites, and I'm just now starting to make some money daily

Question Cost

I am so excited!!! It is nice to know that people are willing to help you. I deal with workers comp. I am the employer. People outside of work that know what I do ask me questions all the time about what to do after getting hurt on the job. I have a bunch of information and resources for the employee and employers that don't know what to do. But will an informational website make money?

You bet wflow. It's the only way I make money and if it weren't for my informational sites, I'd still be at my 9 to 5. As James said, content, content, content is key. But not just any content. Useful, informative content targeted to a specific audience is the way to go.
