Default Greetings from Colorado

Hi to Everyone!

After reading forum posts for the past few months I decided to join in.

My website experience is limited to rebuilding a website about five years ago for the industrial company where I worked. (I was the Sales and Marketing Manager and retired 6 months ago).

Our IT guy was too busy with hardware and networks at the time so I decided to redo the site myself. I got a copy of Dreamweaver and a couple of beginners books, studied the code from some existing sites and went from there.

Recently, I agreed to do some work for my former employer as an independent contractor. I'll be upgrading their site, creating a monthly e-newsletter fore-m their customers, and preparing e-brochures and industrial videos. I also have ideas for several websites of my own (doing one with SBI) and have offered to help a couple of local clubs put together sites, newsletters and mailing lists.

Having said all that, I have a lot of questions about areas new to me - such as web hosting, domain registrations, e-mail services, etc. I enjoy reading the forum postings and sense there are a lot of folks out there who are willing to share their knowledge. In turn, I hope to pass along my experiences to help others.

Thanks especially to Lisa for putting all this together and sharing with so many people!

Regards,
Dave

Hi and welcome! You are going to love Dreamweaver once you get into it. It took me forever to learn how to use it but buying a book is what forced me to learn it more. You will appreciate having the freedom to update your site and not rely on your IT person.

Default Great to have you on board!

Dave,

Welcome. Your presence is much appreciated by everyone here I am sure. I'm confident you will have a lot to contribute as well as well as being able to find the information you are looking for to follow through on your own plans.

There are a lot of good technical people here who are always ready to help solve problems. There may not be as many who have a background in marketing. I know I will be watching for any contributions you may offer in that regard. (As Peter Drucker has often pointed out, the two essentials for business success that the leader of any organization must be competent in are management and marketing.)

Looks like you are not "retiring" in any real sense of the word! Enjoy all the new stuff.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

James - You're right, I'm not retiring as people usually think of the word. I just turned 58 and decided life was too short to spend it building someone else's retirement. As one of my friends said, "so many hobbies, so little time!"

DotComBot - Especially over here in the banana belt.

Regards,
Dave
