Default So much to learn!

Hello all! I'm TOTALLY new at forums and although I've heard about blogging I've not yet checked that out. I'm researching how to create a website so that I can share information about dogs. I know dogs! I'm learning a lot but there is so much more I need to know. One thing that would really help is a glossary of terms! What is SEO, CSS, HTML, FTP, CMS, etc...some of the terms I know what they stand for but still don't understand what the mean, any suggestions for a newbie to understand the terminology so commonly used in this forum? Thanks for any help!:

Welcome to the Babble Land... I would Google it to look up more info about those terms...reason why I say that is that's what I did-lol You will find some great glossary sites for them.

and I am sure if you look around here you will learn more about those terms and much more!

Enjoy, Bob

Hi Sodawild! Yes, I know it's a lot to learn but just take it a step at a time.

Terms...

SEO - Search Engine Optimization - the process of getting your site "optimized" for the search engines so your pages rank well for the desired terms.

HTML - Hypertext Markup Language - the main language used to develop web pages.

CSS - Cascading Style Sheets - a collection of styles on a "sheet" that defines the layout of a page (margin size, font color, line spacing, hyperlink colors, etc.)

FTP - File Transfer Protocol - The process of transferring files from a local server to the a web server. There are many FTP programs out there that allow you to do this.

CMS - Content Management System - a software program that manages web sites through dynamically generated pages, functions, etc. (Joomla for example)

Default Thanks everyone!

I am learning and am determined to a least get a handle on it. Although I'm not of the 'computer generation' and don't have the advantage of growing up with this stuff, I nonetheless like computers and am willing to give it a try!
I'm glad I found this forum and the help it offers!
