Default Newbie from the Sunshine State

Hi,

I am an extreme novice and have been lurking for the past few weeks, learning lots from you guys. Thought I would finally take the plunge and introduce myself.

I am a middle-aged mom with three kids and I know the internet is the way to go for my success. I have been interested in having a website for over a year and started out with no knowledge whatsoever. I went to a family member with many questions....a family member who had, within one year, learned about internet marketing and had built a wildly successful (half mil per year) business. However, while encouraging me to ask as many questions as I wanted he never really gave me any answers to work with when I would ask.

Finally I started to look at other programs to teach me the ropes. I ended up purchasing a very expensive (for me) store building package, but it was quite complicated and it became clear to me that I was going to need to spend a lot more money once the site was built to learn about the marketing end.

Through all of this I have gained quite a bit of knowledge and way more understanding of terminology than I had when I started....but still am quite the novice. I think I lack confidence in the technical arena and still feel like the small fish in the big pond! I am not giving up though and sure wish I had found SBI before I invested all that other money that I am still paying off.

I look forward to building a site and learning a lot more.

Jewel

Hi Jewel,

Can you send some of that sunshine over to Texas. I haven't seen the sun in a few days.

Welcome!

Hi Jewel,

Welcome to the forums!

We can use some sunshine up here in Canada too. It's been a little chilly, gray and dark. Oh well...spring is less than two months away.

Default You are in a good place, Jewel

Jewel,

You are destined for success. I know you have what it takes. It is clear from your letter. You don't always get what you want in life, but you always get what you expect. The fact that you have taken the steps you have already taken show that you expect to succeed. Perhaps you haven't discovered all the information you need yet, but you see the opportunity and you will learn if you stay committed.

On this site you will learn a whole lot from a lot of people, but the most valuable thing you will find here is Lisa's example. Don't make the mistake of copying her focus. You have to focus on something that can motivate you long term because it is your "thing." But you can learn from her openness to share the truth about has helped her to succeed, things like hard work, building your site by providing good content, and devoting yourself to marketing skills. Successful business owners typically devote as much as 60% of their time in the first years to marketing.

Don't feel badly about what may seem like mistakes. Learn from them. It is sometimes as important to learn what doesn't work as what does. Have fun as you learn and good success to you.

James

Hi Jewel,

I am sorry about the expensive/bad purchase. If given the opportunity, most of us would have a lot more failures to talk about than successes... But "failures" are determined by what one chooses to do after he/she hits a disappointment.

You certainly have the right attitude and persistence needed to succeed, and we're glad you've joined us.

Welcome to Website Babble.

LOL - maybe by the end of the week! The Sunshine State has been cool (well for South Florida anyway), windy, gray, and rainy as well since Sunday!!!!
