Arrow Webpage Margin?

I read Mr.Wolley article and he said-"I have almost exclusively used table widths of 580 to 595 pixels through out this site.when using static width tables,I recommend a maximum table width of 600 pixels"...

We all used to put margins say in MS word when creating doccument .

1.How can we translate it in webpage layouting?
2.How long does a webpage width of 600 pixel in inches?
3.Am planning a 3 vertical column layout-The first is for my navigational bar,
the content is in the center and the 3rd is for ads?How can i translate it
in webpage width?

Thanks

I usually keep my sites under 770px in width which is usually safe. I would highly recommend you look into using CSS for the 3 column layout, its a lot easier than standard HTML and it uses less code.

See this CSS 3 column layout template. Its a very good starting point for what you have described.

Are you using a specific web design program to make you pages or just using word?

Does your site with a 770px width is viewed perfectly on any monitors?
I can divide it to 10%,80%,10% table to control my webpage content...

Yeah that will be a nice suggestion i will try to copy its code.I read Intro to CSS of w3c by Raggett & bos.Since am building my page from scratch. It seems you really have to layout first using table tag and then CSS is link on the <head></head>to put a style on your webpages.CSS is save it a separate html file.

I try to do a experiment of it...

I used to keep my pages about 700 pixels wide to support lower resolutions such as 800x600. Most people today use 1024x768 or higher, but you should code to the lowest common denominator.

As for answers to your questions:

1. If you are talking about margins in Word, there is no easy way of converting to Web pages, unless you use Word as your HTML editor. I would recommend, however, to choose another editor as Word is better at word processing than as an HTML editor.

2. There is no easy way to convert pixels to inches. A 19" monitor and a 15" monitor can both have a resolution of 800x600 which is the same number of pixels both horizontally and vertically.

3. I agree with using CSS for a 3 column layout. I use the same method on my blog. I found it to have more of a learning curve than using tables, but it was simpler to manage once it worked.

All but 800x600. As Techieguy suggests use the 700px width.

Yes. You'll need to structure the page using the div tags. Notice the id="header", id="leftcolumn", id="content", id="rightcolumn" and id="footer". That will be the layout for the page. The css style will manipulate it to how it looks and where on the page it will be positioned.

You are correct about linking the style.css from the head tag.
