Default hit counter

Hello folks,

I know this is not the ideal category for this question, but it seemed to be the nearest one I could find. I was wondering what you folks use to count your traffic? Currently My host uses cpanel and has awstats as default, So I have been using that. I am not sure how accurate it is, as the traffic seems to be quite high. I dont think its counting googlebot hits, but i think it could be counting multiple AOL uniques from one person. What do you guys use and what do u find is most accurate?

My understanding is that with awstats a "visit" is a 1 hour unique hit and a "unique" is a 1 month unique. I have had 776 uniques since 3rd sept. My IP stays the same so a few of the "visits" will be me, but only 1 unique. A lot of my traffic has come from forum signitures as i post in forums a lot, 32 hits from google, 1 from yahoo and a couple of people wrote about a couple of my articles in their blogs, this sent a bit too. I wrote a couple of articles for ezinearticles.com too, this had sent about 20 visitors so far

I have always used Google analytics for my stats. They are accurate and have a plethora of reports. There was another thread on stats somewhere on this forum recently and the consensus was that a lot of those hit counters count graphic loads, thus inflating your hit count.

I use Google Analytics and Sitemeter. Google Analytics is good because it's thorough but I like Sitemeter because I've used them for 6 years and I can quickly pull up my stat history over the past years, months, etc. They aren't nearly as thorough as Google Analytics but I like how easily it is to access my reports (I use their paid version). If I want a quick overview of what I've done today or for the past hour, etc., Sitemeter's report is much easier to access and review.

I use Google Analytics as well. I usually look at the keywords that visitors use to find my site, which can be very helpful when creating new posts.

I also included a filter to remove my visits from my home IP address. This helps to ensure the accuracy of my stats. I just have to remember that Google Analytics is also not up to the minute, but for that I will use FeedBurner's stats. They are more up-to-the minute than Google Analytics.
