Hi, I will be having a website very soon, but can you please tell me if when I am explaining something on my home page and I need to link to another website of somebody else, or a better place to look, is it legal to send the person who is reading my site to click on this link, or can I not place other website links without the aforesaid website agreeing to this? I hope I have explained myself clear enough, Thank you.

it would be best if you asked the person first, its always polite. If your talking about them in a good way and promoting their site it shouldnt matter to much if you dont ask.

Ive found alot of people linking my site lately, and its all good stuff to help with promotion so i dont care that they havent asked me directly. They are members of my forum and i always tell everyone to actively promote the site.

Default Legally speaking...

podlod

There should be no problems legally with linking. Problems arise only when you try to pass off someone else's work as your own. If a site is open to the public it is really no issue in telling people where it is.

Even with photographs, legally, by court decision, "a person who places a photograph on the Internet precisely intends to forsake and renounce all privacy rights to such imagery, particularly under circumstances . . .where [the parties] did not employ protective measures or devices that would have controlled access to the Web page or the photograph itself.”

As sammyspam suggests, however, it can be an act of consideration in some circumstances. On my master gardening site I have references to university research pages, etc., and would never get through the paperwork just to find out who to contact! With many individual sites I think it would be good to let people know you value their work and try to encourage links back to your own site.

Default Link Me-its always OK

Hey ,

You can reference my site all you want and you don't need my permission -Hell everybody can-everybodybody needs a good laugh.

On the serious side-Half of a websites success comes from exposure to get traffic and the other half is having good content and what they are looking for.

Remember I get the first link.
