Unhappy Im so upset about my site

I'm so upset.. ok so I had this great site idea and was very excited to get started. so I bought the domain and everything but didnt understand how to go about designing it or anything. so I posted in my workathome group about my idea.. Well one of the ladies and her freind who do webdesign offered to help me.. Ive seen some of there work and It was great.. just what I was looking for.. basically forums and a few things like that.. this was on Feb 25th. she gave me a great discount because I was a stay at home military wife and said I could even pay in installments.. which was great.. but I decided to go ahead and pay some up front so they would know I was serious. anyway its not April 2nd and all I have is the forum up. and my site logo.. all the topics arent even up there yet.. and the buttons that she designed are not there either.. every time I do happen to see her on messenger she tells me shes working on it and it should be finished on this day. and then its not.. she tells me shes waiting on her freind who does the graphics to get the codes for the buttons(seeing i dont know about all this i have no clue) this we are supposed to get together onthe phone to show me how to add things to my forums on my own so that I wont always need here.. but she never comes online. I feel like the communication between us is horrible. and I know its takes time to build a site.. but I still think they should follow up with me at least every other day to let me know whats going on.. am I wrong for that? why do i have to instant messenger her everyday to find out whats going on with my site? shouldnt she tell me.. so I feel bad for emailing her and Im'ing her because they gave me the discount.... but shouldnt I still be treated like a client.. am i overreacting or should I be upset about this. if you got this far thanks alot for any input.. I just wanted the site up and running and if not please at least let me know whats going on with it

Too bad you already paid some money upfront. I had to learn the hard way to only pay when the required work was done. Although I see your dilemma since she was being nice and giving you a discount. So that put you in a sticky situation.

Did she ever give you a timeframe when you decided to have her help you? Even still, she should just be upfront and honest and tell you that it's going to take longer than expected because of [insert reason.] Sounds like to me something is delaying progress and she doesn't want to admit it. I'd rather someone just tell me it's going to take longer rather than keep saying "I'm almost done."

I don't have much experience with dealing with Web designers as I do my own HTML and graphics.

They way I see it, however, is that you are a paying client so you have a right to know what is taking so long with your Web site. You are paying for the service, and it is your site, so you should ask for a timeline as to when the work will be done.

Default suggestion

Hi there,

I hate to see sad stories such as this...have you requested a refund? How did you pay?(paypal?) I would suggest that you send her a registered letter asking for x,y,z by x date and if not completed that you will be filing a complaint with (BBB?) If they do web design as a business, I am sure they wouldnt want their credibility tarnished?

Again, sorry to hear you were misled.

Well, if you have proof that you paid for her to design your site, then you have the right to check up on her to see what's causing the delays. You may even fire her and get your money back.

But if you gave her cold hard cash, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do except nag her to finish your site.
