how to deal with threats!?
i have a few guys that are very pissed at my site. we are in the same niche, very small but competitive. these guys call themselfs hackers and i believe them. i am offering much more then they are and receiving more traffic + absence revenue. someone has told them i am taking donations as well which has got them more angry(dont know why).
this morning i was left 5-10 threatening comments and a few emails saying they will get my ISP in 48 hours and i will find out not to be messing with them. they have stated to shut my site down or move on and nothing will happen.
honestly, i dont know weather to believe them or not but what would you suggest i do? any precautions i should take? from the ip in the comments they left i have their location at newyork which is a few hours away.
it just sad that people will actually do this kind of stuff.
(btw, i know for a fact these aren't internet tough guy kids)

Take it seriously enough.
While nothing may come of it legally, I would definitely report this to the police and ask for advice. If nothing else it will give you a record of the threat. NEVER take threats lightly. You can't let others ruin your life but you cannot just ignore such things either.
If you answer these people, with an email or whatever assuming they left you with the opportunity, it might not be the best. However, it is possible that if some authority, such as the police, notified them that their harrassment/threats were illegal and could result in their prosecution if they persisted, you might more easily be able to get some good relief and discourage them from further actions knowing that they were identified.

Whoa... this type of thing is new to me. I'm the type of cat that would be ready to take to the street. And since that's not professional, I can't give you no advice on what I would personally do.
Therefore, I would definitely suggest that you go the route that James has mentioned up above. I would say though, to get as much info on them as they seem to have been getting on you. That way you'll know exactly who they are. And can help take it up a notch when you bring the law into it.
Good luck though... straight up. And I really mean that!

I think that is a wise move. Also I would let your web host know what has happened so they can pay close attention to look out for anything strange.
You need to ask yourself if these people really are "good hackers" why would they even be trying to make money like everyone here?

I never heard of this kind of thing either. Don't even know if the police can do anything, unless they patrol the net like some big cities. Certainly it is a threat. I agree, that the ISP may be your best bet. You may also consider contacting the FBI, and see what they have to say. Keep us posted.

Omg that is so immature. I can't believe somebody would stoop that low and threaten to attack your site that's crazy. Well I hope everything will work out ok. They should have their website removed. is their anyway you could maybe forward those emails to the google or the police or something? I'm sorry you had to go through this.
