I have been scoping out website designers websites to gain inspiration to respin mine.
I think I am seeing a trend in the portfolio section (or maybe not) of these sites. It seems that screenshots of website designs are linkable to a lightbox (or equivalent) and not linking to a new window displaying the actual website.
My old site had screenshots of my sites linkable to the sites.
Which is better?
Should I not let a visitor "leave my site" even if it is in a new window?

It all depends on you, If you do not want that visitors visit another site than do not give out bound links in the portfolio. However, you can get more inspiration from templatemonster.com. I hope this may help you.

I don't link to my customer's site any more I just use screenshots of the site as I built it.

As part of my design service I offer my clients a simple course in html. One of my clients decided to "improve" my design by adding as many different fonts and colours to his pages as possible. So the thumbnail on my site linked to a complete mess.

Another client forgot to renew the domain name so my link went to a godaddy mfa page.


Unless you have complete control of what your clients do it's better not to link to them.
