Default someone stealing my content.... sort of??

hey y'all - for a little while now, this site has been copying some of my content from a few pages, and the pics that go along with the content. BUT this person always links back to me and says "for more great info on this go check out...." i never minded because it wasn't a lot of my content she was using, and she linked back to my page, as well as other pages that were related. and i'm getting traffic from it, because that's how i found out she was linking to me was in my traffic stats.
i've come to a crossroads with it now, because she has copied my wedding invitation wording page word for word (how invitations can be worded different ways) and i'm afraid there is enough of it that she copied, that i might be penalized for duplicate content.

any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!! thank you!!

My first thought is that it is the other person who would be penalized for duplicate content, since yours would have been indexed first.

Maybe someone else could clarify.

Perhaps you could contact this person (if they have a contact page) and point out their "error" in duplicating your page verbatim. It would be best to nip it in the bud, before you start seeing more of your content duplicated exactly, with no source or credit.

I've had one blogger copy two of my pages exactly and post them on his site as articles he had written. I contacted him twice and asked him to remove the content, or credit it properly. I never recieved a reply.. so I contacted the blog host, who suggested that I could get a lawyer if I wished to pursue copyright infringement. I decided that I was wasting precious energy and time on a lazy, newbie blogger (the site had only been up for one month... I checked back and he hasn't even posted anything for two months!). But it's so frustrating when someone steals your content!

I hope you get some resolution for your issue.

yes, it is frustrating and there is not much you can do. I would not spend money and energy to follow up this matter, but I would send an email and ask him to stop this and that he is violating your copyright. You might mention that you will tell google about it and that your page has been indexed first and that this will be sufficient proof. This might frighten this person and he might remove the content.

You should put a copyscape image on your homepage. This might frighten some people and stop them to copy. You place a little widget (code snippet) at the bottom of your homepage. You get that here at http://www.copyscape.com/

I have done it too. It looks frightening and it is free.
By the way I love your site.

Great advice nobi! I would agree with letting them know that you are prepared to share this issue with google. But I would first not to copy large portions of your content and give you credit for the content she does borrow. This way you could still capture the visits from her site. But if she ignores you, then play the google card.

You have done a great job with your SBI. This is why she is copying you. In the next couple of years, you may be a force to reckoned with.
