Default STATS! What is Important?

Hey All!

I want to get down to the nitty gritty with the deep dark secrets of stats and learn how to make them work for me and need your advice/help.

Currently, I am using a combination of the Free Web Stats that Godaddy offers by hosting my sites as well as having my more important sites set up with Google Analytics.

First off, what do you look at and how and why?

Secondly, I have noticed a discrepency between the two above and the numbers they convey.

Thanks!

Default PARTIALLY ANSWERED...

Ok, I found an answer to the discrepancy issue between Google and Godaddy...

But I still need to dig deep into the rest of ( and more ) this topic.

One stat that I pay close attention to on Google Analytics is the bounce rate. Basically it's the percentage of people who leave your site after only viewing one page. So the lower that number is, the better.

I study what keywords have low bounce rates and see how I can improve my content to make them stay longer. This is a very important stat because a very high bounce rate means your site is not meeting a visitor's needs.

I use Crazy Egg, StatCounter and Google Analytics.

Crazy egg is an interesting website which provides a thermal heat web page which shows a lighter colour for exactly where your visitor clicks on your site.

Statcounter tells you everything you need to know from keywords, meta tags and html errors.

And Im sure you familiar with Google Analytics which puts data into graphs to make data much user freindly and easy understandable.

Another cool tool that I like to use is hittail.com. Basically, it shows you the long tail keywords that you might want to consider harnessing to increase your SE hits. The long tail is really just like the 80-20 rule for keywords. You get 20% of your traffic off of a few keywords, but 80% from the long tail.
