Default IE 8

Maybe there should be a category to deal with the various browsers people use, but until then this is pretty miscellaneous.

Uh, has anyone downloaded the IE 8 beta yet? I'm very wary of downloading it myself, but I want to see what it can do. I just wasted an hour of my life getting my page to work with IE 7 (worked perfectly with everything else), and I want to see if the new browser can handle everything correctly or not.

I haven't downloaded it, and probably won't while it is still in beta.

If you want to try out your site in IE 8, check out http://browsershots.org/. I believe version 8 is an option.

Indeed it is, thanks.

EDIT - Damn, for a moment I thought IE 8 royally screwed it up, but it looks like the page wasn't done loading. Seems to be a common problem on that site.

If you are talking about the Browsershots page not finished loading, yep it does take some time. The more browsers you select, the long it may take.

I usually just loaded the site and come back a few minutes later to see what it had completed.

I'm really glad you told us about that site TG, I use it all the time now. I'll just be glad when IE6 and lower is obsolete! I HATE the way older versions of IE deal with CSS. Seems like they've gotten it together in 7 and 8 (for the most part).

For the most part indeed. Much of the time I've spent on my site is making it work for IE.

Firefox 3 beats IE anyday.

Internet explorer is OK, except it keeps nagging you about this and that which pisses me off.

I'm sure all of us will be happy when IE6 is obsolete. Unfortunately, many people still use it (such as my work).

From what I heard IE8 follows HTML standards better than the previous versions. I think Microsoft is starting to clue in that doing things their own way just doesn't work. We'll have to see, though.

I also use IE6 with my XP Pro SP2.
I use it because many websites don't work with FF.
Some even refuse to load itself in FF.

Sad but true.

I had that problem in the past when Firefox first came out, but I am seeing it less these days. The sites that do have trouble displaying in Firefox are either because they were coded for IE, or they need a plugin for Firefox.

Unfortunately, IE doesn't follow the HTML standards as Firefox does, so sites that are designed for IE usually are not standard.
