Default Firefox???

I'm getting a new computer. Should I go with Firefox as my browser? Right now I use Explorer but I think the new ones come with Windows Vista.

Which is better and why?

Default I like Fire Fox

I like to use Fire Fox for some applications on the web but other times I use IE6. One thing I have noticed with my DSL connection is that Fire Fox does not play flash videos very well. My IE6 however plays the videos just fine. I have several email lists and with the program that I use, Fire Fox will not send a hot link but when i use IE they are. I do really like the spell check with Fire Fox as I surf the web.

Firefox, Firefox, Firefox. It's safer, faster, handles CSS better (but of course you still have to design for IE users since they are still the majority) and not to mention all the cool plugins (add-ons)!

Default Both, really.

Vista will include IE but then you can always download Firefox. You don't really have to make a choice. I agree with Lisa that Firefox is the only way to go for the most part. Especially for your web layout work.

If you work with Firefox and it looks good there it will work with all other browsers usually, except maybe IE. But it doesn't work the other way around. And there are a lot of add-ons to help with your work.

There are a few situations where websites have designed for IE in nonstandard ways that make having IE available is almost essential for occasional use. For example, I used to use a financial site that just couldn't be accessed with Firefox.

The layout issue I commented to you about in another post is an example of a circumstance where IE and Firefox treat text in a different way.

By the way, if you are getting a new computer (sounds great) you may or may not know that you can now have an option as to software that may be installed. Dell, for example, for only $20.00 the last I heard, will not install all the "free" introductory products like anti-virus or back-up programs and the like--usually a ton of them that are extremely difficult to get rid of effectively after the free 30 days is over.

I like Firefox because of the addons, customizations and security. I do use IE also, but I like Firefox for my regular browsing.

I wish I knew about this when I got my wife her laptop. I removed most of the introductory products because I didn't need them, and because there seemed to be a ton loaded.

I totally agree with Lisa on this. I definitely recommend Firefox!

It is safe, fast and reliable... I think it has a friendlier interface than the IE.

I am using Firefox version 3, and I am completely satisfied with it. It has a lot of functions that IE doesn't have.

Use Firefox and you will not regret it!

I use firefox as my main internet browser as of now.

But the best internet browser is safari.

Safari works best with apple computers so if you
have a non-apple computer i recomend you use firefox.

I will be using safari soon when i get my apple computer.

So if I go with Firefox, but most people use IE, will my website look messed up to them?

James, thank you for the tip about not having the free extra's uploaded. I will make sure to do that.

Default No problem.

Jazzy

If you view your work in ie as you develop the site you could have problems with most other browsers (they being standards compliant generally and ie not). If you view in firefox as you develop you will probably have something that works with everything else so you only need to fix for ie IF there is a problem. Most of the time you won't, but occasionally there is as when ie treats margins/padding differently.

Now in firefox there is a simple add-on you can download that will put a firefox icon in the bar at the bottom of your page. When you click on it it switches your page to ie and the icon to ie's. Then you can switch back the same way. It is called IE Tab. Simple but handy.

Otherwise it is not that hard after you finish a page to load it in IE to see what it looks like. In either case it is best to be seeing what your work should look like when you are coding correctly.

Most important. Relax. There are not that many issues that will arise and when/if they do ie's issues are so well known that there is lots of help.
