Default Statcounter

I have statcounter on my website and it's been working fine. Just today I tried to go on it and it will not come up. Just says server not found. Any ideas?

My other pages come up ok

Thanks for your input

Could be that the site is hosting your counter is down. Is it up now?

There was a fire at the ThePlanet's (StatCounter's host) datacenter, so thousands of servers and Web sites are affected.

I learned this because Entrecard is also hosted there.

I just started using Stat Counter to go along with Googles analytics. I notice the two are not consistent. Can anyone recommend another web tracker to use?

Try hitstats..very good web tracker. i am using both hitstats and google analytics. but i must say google analytics is the best for complete details.

Different stat programs track cookies a little differently so that's what causes the inconsistency. If you put any 2 stat programs together you'll always find they the numbers will be slightly different. I think Google Analytics is the best.

Hi all,

I just wanted to drop by and apologise again for the inconvenience caused by the recent outage. I didn't get here sooner as I was waiting for my registration to "clear".

Techieguy - you're absolutely right - the interruption in service was caused by the explosion at The Planet Data Center. Thankfully no-one was hurt. We're desperately sorry that any of our members were affected by this and I can assure you that we worked around the clock to restore full service asap. We have a full explanation, together with an apology, on our blog: http://blog.statcounter.com/?p=91 (I'm not sure what the "link policy" is here so please remove the clickability on this link if I'm in breach of any rules!)

You have? I am very sorry to hear that. I'd love to know what the complaints were... that way we can work on fixing them! You can contact me using this form - http://www.statcounter.com/contactus.html - and please mark your comments for my attention! I'd really appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

As far as StatCounter and GA are concerned some of the differences can be explained by the following:
  • StatCounter tracks BOTH javascript and non-javascript visitors - GA only tracks visitors with javascript enabled.
  • The definitions of unique visitors can vary from system to system which can cause apparent inconsistencies
  • Depending on where the tracking code is on your page StatCounter may load before GA - in the case where a visitor quickly flicks onto and off a page the visit may therefore be "caught" by StatCounter (code higher up the page) and not GA (code lower down the page) - or vice versa.
  • Some visitors may have some tracking systems disabled by their security settings - this again can result in a difference in counts if one tracker is disabled and the other is not.

I'm not sure about GA - but we allow you do download the raw log of your data - if GA allows this also, then you could compare the two. This might help in reconciling any inconsistencies? Just a thought.

Thanks for your time folks.

EDIT: I hope this post doesn't break any of your policies - sole intention is to address issues raised and apologise. I hope that's ok. Thanks.
