Please does Google Analytics let you know visits per day or just visits per month? Or what does Google Analytics actually do?

Google anaytics can show you daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly stats.

It can also show you visitor stats eg. browser, location, how long they stayed on your site, bounce rate etc.

You can also track your content (all web pages) and also Adwords campaigns for conversions etc.

It can give you lots of other stats

You can also compare your visitors over two time periods. For example, you can compare you visitors for March 1 - 31 and April 1 - 30.

For what it's worth, a lot of hosts provide many stats also. I use Dreamhost and they have detailed statistics available automatically. I can access it directly from my broswer, too, by just adding "/stats" to my domain name and typing in my password.
