I used www.aster.com. They provide you with the code to add. I customized it a little bit so it would fit my site's design but it's pretty much just a copy and paste.

It's up to you. A lot of people like Google's. I use Master because it was around way before Google announced theirs and I just never switched 'cause I like them.

The only big difference that I can think of would be, using Google add sense you can use a feature called "Google WebSearch + SiteSearch".
This allows you to monetize your search results, the search will display your websites search results and then the first few results display ad sense ads, just like in a normal Google search, but you can get paid when people click the first few links.
