Default Or...

Lisa,

I don't know of a way off hand to do this, and I know you check pretty often anyway, but I wonder if there is not a way for "report post" items to send a signal of some kind.

For example, if you are "married" to your phone as some of us are (I have to because we do foster care for elderly folks who can have problems any time and I have to be on call when away from the house), if a report post could automatically generate a "help needed" message? That being extreme, just having the computer beep as it does when an email arrives might be a method, too, that would work whenever you were around but just working on something else.

I get an email when people report the posts using the forum report feature but I've just been busy this weekend so haven't been on my emails like I normally am. I am not married to my phone and since I spend so much time online I'm trying not to get into that situation. Besides I don't have my smartphone yet, but even when I get it, I really don't want to have to go there. Having at least 4-5 moderators who can remove the posts I think will help greatly. I really appreciate everyone's suggestions. And I'm sorry these spammers are impacted your experience here.

Default Another thought

Lisa,

After I posted what I did before, I thought of this. It is probably more practical. Spam is one thing, but porn like this recent thing is another.

From what you have indicated about other settings (I am unfamiliar with these forum programs) it sounds like you might be able to block images or video from the first few posts from anyone. That would probably eliminate the porn. The other types of spam are not quite so critical.

You would think there would be an option in the admin panel to not allow images but there isn't. I can set it to not allow images in the signature but there's no option not to allow images in the post. But what is strange is that I have HTML and BB Code disabled for new users so these spammers have found a way to get around the permissions.

In fact a vbulletin hack that Allan pointed out to me had a feature to disable images. Problem is, it doesn't work with my version of vbulletin.

By the way, I have disabled attachments for new users. That may be part of the problem too.
