Last week I built a download page for a free pdf ebook in a sub-directory on my server. At the bottom of the page, I inserted the URL to my primary webpage in the main directory (the original domain name).

When I tested it, it took me to the index page in the subdirectory! I checked the html, but there wasn't a clue as to why this was happening. After an hour of experimentation, I finally had to assign a hyperlink through mytinyurl to take it out of the subdirectory. So, if anyone has had this problem, this is one way to make it work.

Any other ideas?

In the link back to the main page, make sure it says

a href="index.html"

not

a href="/index.html"

the "/" brings you back to the index of the directory you're in, not the original index.html

I bet that must have been frustrating. Try it, and let me know if it works.

Hmmm, I just re-read your post, and I am not sure my response will answer your question...

You said you inserted the url to the main page, so you entered

a href="http://www.domain.com">

If that's the case, then I would have no idea why it would bring you back to the subdirectory's index page.

ya, if you are using a absolute link like http://yoursite.com and not a relative like like /dogs or /index.html I don't see any reason that your site would not send you to the link you are telling it to?

Unless your website host is up to something screwy with the virtual links on the server?
