Cool Meta Tags

I have been reading a lot of posts on this forum about meta tags, so I thought I'd post a little something regarding META.

First of all, META tags are a very old technology. It is obviously still around, but for the most part, the search engines are no longer using them.

Most of the search engines today actually pay no attention to the meta tags. And if they do, they are not helping you get a higher rank in the search engine, rather, they help the search engine know how you want your page to be displayed in the search results.

There are so many people that think that meta tags are actually doing something for them. And for some search engines that are still using archaic technology, they are! However, for search engines such as Google, they are definitely NOT using meta tags to help index their sites. Google does their searches based on a search algorithm that is VERY complex! They do not look at meta tags, they look at content on the page! Which is why it cannot be stressed enough to have AMAZING and ORIGINAL content on your site (at least for the sake of Google's search).

So, don't spend a whole lot of time thinking about what you're going to put in your "keywords" meta tag. IT DOESN'T MATTER!

I agree meta tags are pretty much worthless when it comes to SEO but it is still important to choose catchy/useful titles to get the clicks when you do get ranked.

Let's say you are ranked #4 for the phrase "home employment", you still want to use a good title to draw attention to your site.

I just had to add that 'cause a friend of mine was saying she no longer puts much emphasis on her meta tags so I had to remind her of this. The title and description tags still matter when it comes to making people want to click on your site when you do show up.

I believe keyword tag is not so important anymore, but title and description tag still play an important role in on page SEO.
