Just Wondering
If you make a five or six figure income online, what the heck do you do all day?

play, work, check forums, work, play, play, work, play, work, work, check forums. Although I wouldn't call what I do work. I thoroughly enjoy it.

First of all, I could never imagine having another "job" than this. I have the freedom to work when I want, for how I long I want. I love to travel and was able to take 4 vacations last year. So I do play as hard as I work, and I enjoy both. You definitely need balance in life and the nice thing about what I (we) do is you can work from anywhere so I'm not just limited to sitting home being bored all day.

I don't think I could ever quit my job. x___X'; If I made that much money online I'd still have to work. I am so rediculously ambitious that I couldn't play all the time. xD Just because you make a lot doesn't mean you *can't* play, right?

Of course, I played a lot when I worked a 9 to 5 too. Life is what you make it. Just like people who don't have a regular 9 to 5 can still be ambitious.

I didn't stop being ambitious just because I don't work on the clock. But I will say, this life isn't for everyone. So I understand what you're saying augenauf.
The most frustrating thing about not having a 9 to 5 is people assume you don't work and you play all the time. And the truth is, I work a heck of a lot more I did when I worked outside the home. I guess 'cause I love what I do. The difference is I play and work on my own schedule rather than a boss dictating when I have to work.

When I have the freedom of time, I can do a lot of other valuable things that not everyone can or have the opportunity to do.
For instance, IMO, it's much much more ambitious to create a 9-to-5 for yourself (and maybe others too) than to be employed by someone else.
I foresee in my future that I will start an NPO, that not everyone (even the most ambitious employed people) may have the opportunity to do, because they are tied down to a 9-to-5 that pays the bills.
Here is my deal... if I can pay my bills and more by my online endeavors, I can choose how to spend the rest of my time... whether it is enjoying life, making a difference, volunteering, or whatever.
The other thing... as a graduate student, it's not a 9-to-5... it's a 9-to-9, and I am not the lucky one, there are a ton of others who have to do the same.
Having options and the ability to choose, IMO, is incredibly valuable... whereas you're always told what to do in a 9-to-5.

Work and Getting Money are Different Things
Work is some kind of productive effort. You don't have to get paid for doing it but it does have to be something worthwhile that you do with part of your time. Live is meaningless without it. That is why so many older people "retire" only to die shortly thereafter. They have nothing to do that is worthwhile.
Internet success has a potential to produce passive income, more or less, so that attracts a lot of people. These people are probably just working for money in a job they don't like. Lisa's focus on building a web site that concerns a real interest for you is important. You won't keep at it long enough or hard enough if it has no sense of value to you aside from the money.
So there is virtually no difference between work and play once you separate the money from the work equation. Pick something you would like to do anyway and you will be playing all the time even when you are working. It makes for a terrific bit of work (that may or may not be the basis of your livelihood). So stop counting the work, play, play...in Lisa's post and get back to work, I mean play, er...
James
