Default Help !!!!!

Hi Everyone

This is very crazy. I have been creating my site using FrontPage, when I have made alterations I preview it in IE7 on my laptop.
IE7 is the browser I generally use, I then went to preview it on a desk top pc that is running Firefox and some layout features are different and the background colour is not showing. I checked with the MSN browser and that seems to be fine.
If you have both IE7 and Firefox have a look the difference its huge!!!
If anyone knows why this may have happened I would be most grateful for the help. This is my first site and my HTML is not that good, it may well be something simple, I don't know.

Thanks

Dan

-shudders-

It's not uncommon for IE and FF to not match up so well, to say the least.

Where is your site again?

Hi augenauf

The site is: www.romfordclubs.com, I have taken all the colour out of it now and removed a lot of the adverts on the main index but I have left a copy on the server that shows the adverts and half the banner moving and missing. This is located www.romfordclubs.com/index3.html

Where I had been checking it in just IE7 I never thought it would be different from firefox but now I know I will check both before I upload!

Thanks

Dan

I had some differences when creating my blog. Each browser has its own quirks and it can get frustrating at times.

The important thing is that you have tested it in both browsers and caught the problem sooner rather than later.

To help reduce the difference I suggest the following:

1. Use CSS files to manage the look of your site, and stay with the standard styles. Both IE7 and Firefox should display those styles very similar to each other.

2. Build the layout of your site slowly. Continuously check your site in both browsers as you go.

Just on a side note, Frontpage 2003 is very well known for doing this it has so many incompatibility issues if you are doing it from scratch with just the code you are fine but if your using the design view, its a lot different. I find Dreamweaver alot better but if you are not willing to switch which i doubt you will, just do what Tech suggested keep checking your work in both browsers and you'l never go wrong

Thanks for your help guy its been a real help to me.

I will probably stick with FrontPage for this project and I will change for the next site as I have used Dreamweaver before and it was fantastic but It wasnt my copy.

Thanks again everyone, time to work on the content I think!

Good decision, I think i found it one of lisa, or ken from SBI!s articles. People who tweak there site and monetize before doing a solid content base are the people that fail, and that is one of my big bad habits constantly looking at my competition and tweaking.

So stick with your content, and keep checking your traffic stats, using google analytics's to check your bounce rate and if you've left an email about your site im positive if people are having a problem with browsers etc they will contact you, a lot of my contact emails are because i've missed out a word or my grammer isn't quite up to scratch

If you are concerned with how your site looks in different browsers, then ask people in this forum to check out your site when you are finished. I'm sure those in this forum use many different browsers and will be able to provide feedback.

Hi Daniel_j,

Some notes:

A good reading re *Cross Browser Compatibility* found here:

You can check your websites on your computer - take a look here:

Or check online:
