Default Query about doing website design for others

I dont know if this is the right thread to query....

I am pretty good at creating websites for myself and wanted to give it a try creating website for clients. I am a member of hosting and discovered that they do not allow me to create a website for someone under my account as this would be considered as sharing. The only way is for the client to sign up a hosting account or I buy another.

I have learned website designing through the hosting site who has provided me with free website building tool where I learnt everything via their video tutorials and help. I am concerned that if a client buys a domain name with a different host I wouldnt be able to transfer all the hosting pages of the site I created to a different hosting site...I think this has to do with the embedded hosting name in the html page or something.

Can anyone advise me what the best solution is...any website designers out there????

It really depends on what tool your talking about. Are you using a website builder? If so what one? Some will allow you to export the site so it can be used with any web host.

Default Only the host can tell you. Ask them.

If the site building tool is a proprietory program intended only for use on the host then you would have to use another program to build other sites. But this would be a good idea for you to learn to do anyway. You might find yourself needing to move hosts for some other reason at some point.

Chances are, if you have learned to use their program you could easily start using another program. Lots of folks here like Dreamweaver which has a graphical interface (if that's what you want) and some of us like hand coding with programs like Notetab (Lite version is free).

Have fun either way.

There are so many resources to learn Dreamweaver. But it is not easy. You have to sacrifice some time, plus you have to understand some code, at least html. I have been learning Dreamweaver for about 3-4 month, everyday reading some tutorials online, trying to learn CSS, PHP and JavaScript, and still feel as I am a newbie.
Here are some links to get started..

If I were starting over again, I would invest time in learning to handcode in notepad which is free!

I agree, I bought Dreamweaver about a year ago when I first started and used it for about 2 months before moving on to Notepad++. Using notepad++ is so fun once you have some HTML/CSS knowledge.

Graphical user interfaces such as Dreamweaver are invaluable when designing websites. But I am a firm believer that you have to be able to read and code some basic HTML. It is certainly not a necessity to creating websites, but can save you hours upon hours of trying to fix a silly coding error (like forgetting to end a div) when the error may be hidden behind your interface. In addition, it means you are not limited to propritary templates and software as James pointed out.
