Participate forums which grant dofollow signature for your contribution.

It is like give and take policy where we user should provide useful tips or content to the forum (no spammm pls) and take the forums reward(in terms of dofollow links) for our work.

True. Then you find those indexed pages and make the comment.

The concept of link building is fairly similar - get backlinks from high PR sites. Check the PR of the forum you are posting on, maybe it's a no-follow or a spam forum.

Do you use forum just for the sake of link building only. It gives valuable information about search engine optimization. For link building you can try these things:

Social bookmarking
social networking
link exchange
video submission
article submission
etc

Like the others are saying here you can do blog commenting, directory submission and you can also create web 2.0 sites linking to your website for backlinks. Also try article submission. They can give great backlinks too.

If you are going to use forum for linkbuilding i think the most effective way is to look for a post with a high linkability value...dont just post on every topics or threads that has low chances of getting links....

forum linkbuidling not give you that much of visitor which other site brings. Its depend on your thread which you make. if that is famous you get good traffic and backlink from them.

Forums are less about the quality of link and more about traffic. You tap straight into a communit and a signature with interesting information will only draw on the most interested visitors. Also, from a tactical point-of-view, you don't want to be publishing your best anchor text so it's always better to use secondary or varied text.

Forum posts by the nature of posting will generate lots of links, but these links won't really effect your rankings. Anyone can blast a forum with posts - but forums were one of the earliest forms of social media.
