I thinks Quality Back links are more important then quantity of Back links.
if you wants your sites higher PR or High SERPS you should focused on quality of back links like higher PR back links and trusted sites back links.

Agree, there is no need to count Backlinks. As long the backinks are from relevant niche and have high quality, for example, form high authority website, then it will u good, don't bother about the number.

What they said was right. I guess when it comes to quality backlinks, there is no such thing as too many, cause the more you have quality backlinks, the better. For other links (unrelated) however, you should be careful.

If you ask me, there is no such number to quantify what they say 'many' as long as it looks original, and as long as you get your links consistently. Not like having an instant 1000 backlinks in this month, and 30 on the other ... that would be pretty obvious.

I agree! Back links from relevant and DoFollw sites are the the most important thing you need to remember with creating back links. Its not just the quantity but the quality that you are getting.

I think there is no 'n' of links we can say but its vital to have good and quality backlinks on regular base for getting good output to your site.
