Hello, I want to know about link exchange and how to do it?

It's quite simple really, you talk to another websmaster about it, and then if you both agree on which page the link is going on etc, you put a link to their sight on yours, and they put a link to your site on theirs. I don't go for it myself as excessive outgoing links would damage my conversion rate but if you post offering one you will probably get a few offers.

Notice that link exchanges are not so worthy as one way links and the reason is that google can understand whether you exchange links just for getting ranked or you add some value to the process. Moreover, if you do a link exchange, make sure that you do it with relative websites on your niche.

Is it possible for a link to have a negative effect on your page rank, say if it's on a really irrelevant site?

I don't think it can have a negative effect, but it can have so little effect that it's like being ignored by google.

Click the FAQ link at the top of the page and read, read read. You'll figure it out.

Also getting links that are not relevant to your site is of no use.

Like what other said, you can communicate with other webmasters through email or by phone and ask them for a link exchange, always ensure that the site that you will be linking are authority or relevant and trusted by google, this is to ensure that you avoid linking to bad neighborhood which may have negative effects on your rankings.

Just google "link exchange your topic" and a bunch of sites will show up. A lot of them have forms to fill out to do a link exchange with that site.

link exchange is another way of improving backlinks, getting PR juices as well as the traffic. This technique has a lot of benefits that's why many webmasters are doing this. They look for their competition as their link partners and exchange their links.

link ex change for example you put my link in your home page and i will put your in mine that is all but you have to go and find some web site about your niche

Simply, contact the webmaster of the website you like. Mostly link partners are looking for a relevant site having high PR, and sometimes volume of traffic.
