Does forum works in link building?

I wonder how forums works in link building, I see guys going after forums to build links by including signatures and day and nite looking for some new dofollow links, okay so when we pass comments or post threads it creates a unique page that page doesn’t has any Pagerank values, so how its counted in link building? it just create a healthy backlinks, yes we can say it also helps in keywords in the SERPS, so mine question is does it works in link building to get some PR reputation? Well I am new and still learning, so I am eager to know much in details about how it works in forums.

Even is it doesn't and you post in relevant forums you may get targeted traffic due to interest from people browsing the forum.

Forums are about participation and making contribution to the community you are part of. Sig backlinks are only a way to tell people who you are and what you do, that's all. If your posts are worthy enough, you can get traffic, but you cannot expect any pagerank - the thing everyone is so pointlessly obsessed with - to be transferred. One can not achieve anything at all by spamming all over the place, except perhaps annoy other members and render the whole idea of a forum useless.

Go ahead posting about how forums sigs can boost something.

I've kinda just given up on search engines now, just working on direct traffic and hoping the page rank comes with that

Well obviously I would like to be on Google's first page. But I never seem to be able to get it, no matter how much I change to my site SEO wise. So now I'm just concentrating on getting targeted links for direct traffic. And maybe if I get enough Google will pick my site up all by itself.

Then that is not pagerank

What is generally called pagerank is the little green thing on the toolbar.

What you want to achieve is a good rankings with google - a completely different story.

Now, by picking up your site, do you mean indexing? If so, that is again a completely different story.

I like your approach though - concentrating on people, and not bots, is the most sensible path to follow.

Forums are good for backlinks if they are dofollow forums. Some are nofollow and are pretty useless in my opinion because you don't get any link juice.
