eggs
I'm going by the philosophy of not putting all my eggs in one basket and I'm using several of the above described methods.

I do two of these
forums for just backlinks
social bookmarking for faster indexing
BUT
forums [only high PR quickly crawled by all search engines with the highest alexa rank]
social bookmarks [done wisely only with attractive n keyword rich titles]
do anything but wisely that is the trick

Hi cools4u,
I've found the best way to get quality backlinks is by choosing related keywords, keywords that are related to your niche. Then write articles using your keywords and post your articles on article sites such as Squidoo, EzineArtilce, HubPages, etc... to get ranked in Google. Then comment on relative forums such as this one and leave your url in your signature. This has worked really well for me.

Quality links means links coming from sites with some or related content. The rest, such as, links from directories, forums, blogs, articles, SU are just links. You need hundreds to see a real change in your site status. Howewer, they are good for traffic.

Article posting
With regards to article posting, is it okay to just submit an exact copy of one of your blog posts?

I personally would rewrite it, if it was me. That way you have a chance of getting two pages listed or ranked in the SE's, duplicate content "usually" doesn't get listed.
Course I often get lazy and just copy and paste my articles Though I know it doesn't take long to rewrite. So who am I to say?

actually copying the same exact article doesn't hurt you, I've experimented with this a lot so I'm sure.
however it still ranks you higher if you at least change the first paragraph and the first sentence of each paragraph to follow.
cheers, amr

Great content is the most effective way to get one way links in the long run. I have had some success with article submission but it may be short lived. I'm using forums and plan to create additional related free websites. I think directories help get your site indexed but don't do much for page rank due to links. I haven't tried social bookmarks and RSS Submission. Can someone explain these two items?

Social bookmark links is just creating accounts with places like digg,, stumbleupon, ect and adding your links. Course it helps to add other links besides just your own. Not that it seems to matter really.
Getting linkbacks from RSS is just submitting your feed to rss directories and any place that takes rss feeds. There are a number of social sites that take feeds like MyBlogLog, Squidoo, Multiply, Hubpages, ect. This can also give you deeper back links.
