Default Backlinks: Help me website babblers

Hey everyone,

I need your help! I created this site consumer-auto-guide.com few months ago and spend about $500 getting the content and graphics done and even got a dozen of articles done for article marketing.

The problem is that I haven't been able to build links and drive any traffic to the site. That's because given the niche of the site I don't know where to go to start building links.

I don't have clue to how start building back links to my site. Any insight will be appreciated.

web_dev

P.S.
Please don't steal the content** (Sorry, I just wanyed to add this)

You can use google alerts. When you sign up for an account, enter the main keyword of your site. Google will email you an alert every time someone posts something new on a blog that's related to your keyword. You can post comments on their blogs, and your name will become a backlink to your site. The key is to post something useful, not spam. An SBIer came up with this concept and it works well. I just started using Google alerts about 1 week ago, and I've gotten a lot of new incoming links.

I agree with West. Looking for related blogs and sites through google alerts is one way. Article marketing is slowly becoming a thing of the past and not nearly as useful as it once was due to the fact the engines devalue backlinks from articles. These days it's all about networking through blogs and contacting folks directly to work on partnerships (especially for content/affiliate sites). Quality, related backlinks are everything now so people are finding they need to be more aggressive. Network, network, network.

By the way I love the graphic of the guy kicking the car! Very cool.

Thanks for the replies.

I've noticed the value of articles diminishing. Last time I had some write 8 articles for article marketing. Posted them all to ezine, waited for them be published and then saw no traffic for months after.

Lisa, what do you mean by "networking through blogs and contacting folks directly to work on partnerships". Can you elaborate?

@West, I didn't even know about Google alert. I will check it out. But now a days most blogs have "nofollow" on the sitename when you leave a comment. Do you think it Google counts the link when you leave a comment with a link to you site in the URL section?

I mean actually emailing people and working up a deal. (Not spamming of course, but genuinely asking if there is a way to partnership). A friend of mind just got featured in a newsletter for a large site just because she emailed the author and asked if there was some sort of way they could work together. I mean getting more aggressive with contacting people you can potentially partner with.

I have never thought about using Google alerts in that manner before. I'll have to try that. I used Google alerts now, but I use it to check for someone duplicating my blog's content.

Not completely sure about this, but I believe the "nofollow" link is used when someone adds a hyperlink to the actual comment section. Usually, when you leave a comment, you have to add your name, email address and website, and your name will automatically become a text link to your site. I do not think this is a "nofollow" link because since I started using google alerts, the blogs I post to are showing up in my list of backlinks.

However, If I added a link in my actual comment, for example:
<a href="http://www.myblog.com>Check out my blog</a> and tell me what you think...
the server will automatically add the "nofollow" link to that in order to prevent spam.

Again, I'm not sure if this is correct, maybe someone else can chime in.

Actually those links have nofollow on wordpress blogs and even blogger blogs. If you're seeing links in google from the comments you left, then I say that' good news. I've already started using google alerts. It's great.

West, how affective this has been for you? You seeing your pages coming up in google as result of this?

I haven't seen pages come up in google yet. I've been getting a small increas in traffic from the other blogs I post to, and according to SBI, my link popularity has increased.

Oh that's nice. I think it is making an affect and you will see results in few months. I've started using google alert for blogs as well. Started posting comments. I'm confident this method will work. Thanks again for sharing.

Question

wow! I never even thought of that(Google Alerts) thanks for the tip West!

I don't feel bein' aggressive(shoving sales pitches/JV's down their throats) works(unless I'm reading you wrong). But I know what you mean about Social Networking bein' the thing.

I've been hearin' a lot of conflicting opinions over the tactic of Article Marketing. Some say "yes...It's better then ever. Others say "it's on it's way down". There are even those who point out to just head for the right ones and write something of good quality.

Who would you say has the authority on this?

So confusing

I also just begin using Google alerts this month, It will be interesting to see what the quarter over quarter stats look like. If they end up getting indexed in google I can only see that as a positive thing.

Have I mentioned I love Google? I'm a big fan of their webmaster tools but I never noticed that alert link at the bottom. I just set one up to test with - I guess that will be something else I'll have to blog about once I see exactly how it works.
