Hey,

I heard that it harms your website to have links to every single page on your main page. Is this true? I thought it might make navigation a bit easier, but if that's true, then I certainly won't do it. :P

Smile Information Architecture is a key

Actually, it depends on how big your website is.

But for most websites the rule is to structure information in pyramid scheme. (there is no MLM involved here)

It means most important information are on top of your page, that means index, or home. Less important pages are on second level and so on, so on. At the bottom there are very specific pages.

If you need to link all pages together - do it in a site map. This will help your visitors find their way around and google to index all of your pages.

I would pay more attention that proper navigation is placed on every page, and that from each page users can access home page, and other main areas of your website. Also make sure no page is a dead end - it has to have links. Thats the nature of internet - people move on through pages.

I don't think so. There are many sites which have only links and links on their index page and yet rank well. I would suggest concentrating more on the content than on internal linking.

However, ensure that the pages to which you link, have at least one link back to the index page. This way it will prevent the seepage of pagerank. As far as proper navigation is concerned, use a breadcrumb and see that the index page is no farther than 2 clicks from any page on the site. This way, the users won't get "lost" in your site and it will also help the search engines to properly index your site.

use a breadcrumb
good point ncaditya.

If you your site is multi tier, it is must to have breadcrumb navigation on top of every page so that user know at what level of the site they are in.

An example breadcrumb navigation

In bound links should not be a problem at all.

It helps with your navigation

I have read in a really awesome SEO book that it actually helps to have all of your pages linking to each other because even if it's internal, these links still count as a "vote" in the whole PR thing.

That's what I do because that's what I was taught and I've never heard otherwise.

I use internet links on some of my articles I either embed them so say i use a keyword that i had a page on i link it, but i also do it on articles that are on chronological order i usually put "next" or "carry on to the next page" or something similar, remember your challenge is to keep the visitor on your site.
