Default Things That Can Prevent You From Getting Traffic

I discover that one of the things that I prevent me from getting the traffic to my site are the embedded Google Maps. I often place such maps on my sites to illustrate the location of places. However, for many people with slow connections, it causes the page to freeze up. This prevents them from opening the page, and so reduced the number of people I get to my site. I really have no solution to this yet, apart from not placing maps, which is really a drawback to the information I want to provide.

Please feel free to share what other things you find that can actually prevent or slow down the amount of traffic you get to your site.

Tim, can you take screenshots of the Google maps? As long as you give credit to Google I think that might work.

I too had the same problem. I needed a google map to show our retail garden store where we are located. But instead of imbedding the map directory unto our site I used a link that said "Map to Our Retail Store Location". The link is the actual google map location.

Be sure to use the tag attribute TARGET="_blank" to make the link appear in a new window. If the window freezes you still have your main site open.

    It works for me

Thanks for the advise, Paul. Yes, I will do that going forward.
