Try some link exchanging, backlinks are the most important think when trying to get your site visible in time people will talk about you in social networking sites or they will promote you by putting your link on there site.

Definately check out social bookmarking too and make the internet work. Using Wikipedia and other wikis or writing a few articles can help get your credibility off the scale and backlinks will come eventually. The net is nothing like it was 15 years ago you could make a site on 'cars' and rank high in the search engines its a lot different but, but definitely do-able.

Ok the absolute best way to get google to index or notice your website is article writing.

I'll give you an example right here, right now.
I recently started a new website goodcontentwebsites.com I thought it would take forever to get noticed by the search engines specially google.

So I wrote an article about "good content websites" and submitted it to ezinearticles.com

About 2 weeks later It is now listed on the first page 2nd listing for the keywords "good content websites". Yes...Just google those keywords right now and see for yourself. The website is only about 1 month old.

Oh I also submitted the website to article directories.
