Default Link exchange or compete?

On my topic I chose for my website, there is one sub-topic that a website already has specifically covered, would it be recommended to write my own content and compete with them(Which seems hard because they seem to have taken lots of time just to cover that certain sub-topic), or simply exchange links and have my site saying, "For great info blah blah visit yata blah" and on their site say "For other information blah yata visit blah blah"?

Haha, "blah.. blah"

Thanks.

Hi SHFarms,

I think it depends on a few things:

1. If I had unique opinions or ideas about this sub-topic, I would create my own content. If I find that I am just reiterating what they have already covered, then I wouldn't pursue it.

2. Would my website audience be interested on my take for this sub-topic? If so, I would create my own content.

3. If I am interested in this topic, I would start writing about it.

4. If creating my own content about this topic can open the door to other topics that a) I am interested in, b) my competitor may not have covered, then it may worth spending the time to create it.

I hope this was helpful. What are your thoughts about this?

Sherif

With my topic, I have had experience with it, but the one sub-topic, (which is making profit) I have actually not done. So I would not be able to create my own unique content. To make a page on it I would find myself rewording and possibly putting my opinion about it into what I write, but nothing that would be any better what the other person has.
