I am wanting to have some of the photos on my web pages. Several pgs in the grad are duplicates of each other, so I plan on having them changed. My web master has said if I get them to 153 pixels it will save him time and me $$ [for me to do this part myself]
I have a pixsizer but don't see any thing the size he has mentioned. How do I go about doing this? I don't want to have to pay for some pic program either.

Thanks for the info Lisa, however I just did that and found no way to resize the pics. There is bound to be some easy way to go about doing this, so I don't have to pay a lot to have it done.

I haven't played with Photoshop Express, but I would have thought they have the resizing feature, since it's commonly used... hmm.

I know GIMP (http://www.gimp.org) has it. By the way, GIMP is free

Using GIMP, open the image, then Image > Scale Image

Both sound like great options.... I don't know PhotoShop express, but in the full version once you've opened a file just choose 'save for web' from the File menu (I'm pretty sure it's the File menu - if not it'd be Edit.)

This will open a new area of Photoshop where you can simply type in the dimensions of the image you want to create - very easy.

If that feature isn't available in the version Lisa mentioned, it will be in PhotoShop CS3, which you can also download as a trial version from the Adobe.com site.

By the way - a slightly different point, and I may have misunderstood - but I noticed you mentioned in your first post that you were being charged by your 'webmaster' for site maintenance (including resizing images etc).

Wouldn't you prefer to try to maintain the site yourself (and save a bit of money too)? This is definitely a great place to ask for guidance on how!

I checked out the Photoshop Express forums and it was mentioned that there is no way (at the moment) of resizing photos.

Many people have requested this feature, and it looks like Adobe will be adding it. We also have to remember that Photoshop Express is still in Beta so there are features missing that will be added as time goes on.

Yes I would like to do it all myself, however I am still learning and actually changing the pics on my site is not in my skills as of yet. I have all of my sight loaded on filezila, wouldn't I have to have dreamweaver program to do all of that?

Since no one else has responded let me suggest a couple of things.

Don't worry about Dreamweaver or any other expensive programs if you are not prepared to invest in them. FileZilla is a great program for ftp. I see no reason not to use it no matter what programs I prepare my site material with. You can use whatever programs you are using. You upload your pictures separately just as you do the files.

Sizing pictures is really one of the basics. Gimp, mentioned above is a free graphics program. Another one that is very widely used is Irfanview. You will need to "resize" images a lot. When you decide on the size of area on your page you want a picture to occupy you need to make the picture the same size so it doesn't keep the same number of pixels it would have if it were given a larger area.

If you don't do it with some program, just forcing pictures to fit into a smaller area, you will have a tremendous load on the download process. For example, just to test this I just assigned a small size (about two inches wide) for six pics I put on a web page. The page used 1,800 mg and made the page take several minutes just to upload (ftp). If your page has pictures that are not resized to reduce the time for people to open your pages people will just leave during the process and never see your site. I resized the pics with Paint Shop Pro X2 which is what I use and the entire page (including the six pics) was just over 100 k. It loaded in seconds.

You don't have to learn much about the programs to resize your images with them.

See the problem is I didn't design the site my self obviously. It is difficult my me to learn some things without being physically as in in person shown exactly how to do them. The only changes I have made on my site is on some of the view source page. I know nothing about the codes to put text in the correct spot. I want to learn how to do these things and save money, some times it just feels like a brick wall banging against my head lol or is that the other way around?

The main thing is just getting the pics sized send to web master well unless someone comes here to show me how [smile] then get the pics to him.

I appreciate all of your help. I'm sure i'll get this all figured out soon.

Relax a little. Basic markup looks a lot more difficult at first than it is, nothing like programing. And once you get filezilla set up all you have to do is click on "reconnect" and you are connected to your site. Then you just drag and drop from one folder on your computer to one on the site, just as you do two on your computer.

You don't have to know more than what you will learn in a few minutes to change out your pictures if you make them the same size. Go to w3schools.com and look at the html tutor under images to see what it looks like. Don't worry about the details. Then you can locate the pic in "view source" (right click on your page and it is listed) and see what size it is (images have a code "img" and have a length and width listed). The code is enough in English (like your content words) to find it.

You won't have to change any of your code that way. Just make your image the same size as one on your page, give it the same file name as the one on your page, and upload it to the same folder with filezilla so it copies over the old pic. This won't allow great changes but it will get you started changing the basic image you are concerned with.
