Default Getting a Video On Youtube

OK I am ready to start putting my videos online and I've seen the youtube craze. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to get my videos (which are on a mini tape not DVD) onto Youtube?

webber,

I'm not a youtube user but in order to host your videos there you need an account first.

Once you sign in with your login, there is a button on the top "Upload Videos" to upload your vides

Webber, try these links

Thanks Webdev, i understand that part. My problem is getting from the tape format to the proper format to youtube. Don't you need it to be in a certain file format? My videos are on a video tape. I know I have to burn it into a DVD but I'm lost after that.

Hey webber,

Once it's on a DVD you'll need some kind of conversion software to convert it into a .WMV or .mov file. I have Pinnacle Studios. It's a bit pricey but very easy to use. You can also add captions, create movies, etc.

Got it. So sounds like I need to go software shopping. What did you pay for Pinnacle?

I believe it costs $100 but I got it for free. I went to the Affiliate Summit in Vegas this past January and Real Networks was giving the software away from their booth. I was elated!

But Pinnacle is really best for movie editing. Say you have a series of videos from your camera and you want to turn it into a movie with music, effects, etc.

If you just want to convert your movies into a format for YouTube then I'm sure there's cheaper conversion software out there. I just use Pinnacle 'cause it's all I have.

What format is your file in now? Have you tried download.com ? That's where I get most of my converters. I bet there's some freeware there.
