Default Question about images and words.

first off, hi ppl :P i looked around for ANY type of info on the web related to my question, i was about to give up, when i remember the forums on this site haha, so i hope u guys can help!

ok, i acquired a picture im going to be modifying into my sites "logo" but unfortunatly, this picture is 1 of the many ruined 1's by idiots, it has a about... 2 cm by 1 cm box in the upper left, of a site and insultive typing (this is not their image either, was ripped from the original creator whom i know) but problem is, HOW do u remove "writing" from a image, without actually damaging the image? i tryed many tricks and trys, but in end they all completly deleted the background, etc, around it, ruining a tiny portion of it, which looks bad... so any help would be VERY appreciated, been busting my head over this for 5 hours now

Hi Webber

Do you have photoshop or fireworks? That's probably the best program to use.

Yeah I was afraid that was the problem. Not sure you're going to be able to make it look nice with the free programs. If you want to clean up a logo like that you really need something like photoshop. Although paintshop may be able to get the job done, unfortunately I don't have any experience using it.

This is pretty hard to explain on a message board. Is there some way you can give us a link to the image or the page that it's on? I'm no photoshop guru but I can try.

unfortunatly, i cannot, and will not post the image on here, or link to it, as i stated about, it has some "very bad" phrase's on it, hence why im trying to fix it, and if i post it here, and some children walk by, click it, i would be in trouble for that 1 hehe :P if you can just try to explain best you can, i could likely do it, im not a idiot at computers luckily, and bit of "fiddling" if u lead me in the correct direction, i should have it np.

Well thanks for not posting it if it's inappropriate. Let me see if I can try to explain. I am a beginner-intermediate photoshop user so bear with me and there may be a better way of doing it.

OK, first I'm assuming you see some kind of menu bar on the left side when you launch Photoshop. These are the most common tools you'll use in the program.

If the image has a white background then you can simply use the eraser tool in photoshop to erase the text and then use the Text tool to retype over it. If you don't know how to find the tools just hover over them in the menu bar and photoshop will tell you the name of the tool.

If the background is not white then you can paint over it with the color of the background.

To get the right color, click on the square box in the menu that says "Select foreground color" when you hover over it. It looks like a square box. When you click on it, a "color picker" will launch and you'll see an eyedropper that will let you select a color. Use the eyedropper and click on the background of the image you want to erase. Now you've set the color to match the background and you are ready to paint over it.

Choose the brush tool and paint over the text you want to erase. Now use the Text Tool to type of it. (The text tool is a capital T)

Try that and let me know if you make any progress.
